Alternative Energy Sources That You Can Use To Replace Fossil Fuels

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Education of the masses with regards to alternative electricity sources is the primary goal of advocates keen for renewable energy to be used more throughout the world. Most energy that is used today in our homes and cars come from fossil fuels like coal and petroleum, with estimates suggesting around 75%. Estimates suggest that nuclear power accounts for about 20% of electricity and the rest is created from renewable energy sources. It is possible to produce electricity from biomass, geothermal power, wind power and solar energy and this type of electrical production is much kinder to the environment.

SideBar: Looking for more on renewable energy resources then click Earth4Energy review and homemade solar hot water heater for details on how you could be using renewable energy today, to not only save yourself a bit of money but also benefit the environment.

Electricity production is maintained and created by the movement of a magnet around a conductor. This can be achieved by having two conductors in salt water, shining a light on the conductors or by touching the conductors together. The energy produced to keep the electricity moving comes from absorbing energy or energy collected for burning fuels. This energy is needed to keep the copper wire found between two magnets spinning as this is the most common form of electricity generation and delivery.

Wind power is one of the best forms of renewable energy but one of the least utilized. This is unfortunate as much of the electricity needed by the United States could be supplied by wind power, but knowledge of it's effectiveness if growing. Wind power is the most environmentally friendly electricity sources and is the most efficient of any electricity production as it produces more electricity then for a small amount of wind power.

Solar power is about converting solar light into electricity. This is a well-known electricity source that has been made many advances in recent years. Home solar units and commercial solar energy are becoming much more popular with any excess collected energy being fed back into the electricity grid.

Converting your home to solar energy is an option that many homeowners will take up in the near future and after the initial costs it will make a significant dent in your home energy bills for a long time to come. The initial installation costs can be rather high, but there are numerous tax and other incentives available to lessen the sticker shock.

Hydropower generates electricity from the kinetic energy stored in moving water, so whenever you venture past a dam you will also notice an electricity generator or station nearby. Falling water that passes through a turbine created mechanical energy that can be transformed to electricity. The classic instance of this ocurring was in Niagara Falls when a mouse caused a large black out by chewing through a wire. There exist small hydro electric generators that can be used to generate electricity if you have a significant supply of running water on your property.

Biodiesel can replace petroleum in many vehicles and is used by many trucks and tankers that make long haul journeys. Biodiesel is produced from animal fats and vegetable oils and was first used in 1895. Pretty much all vehicles can be converted to running on biodiesel, although there are some unusual consequences at times, like your car smelling of French fries if you use straight vegetable oil!

Dealing with anger and depression

Friday, July 31st, 2009

As people we have been blessed with things such as emotions.  We have positive emotions. But we also experience emotions that are negative. In this piece, let’s examine some emotions that can be negative at times.

Why they are two emotions we need to take a closer look at is because these emotions are ones that may require professional help.We all have gone through joys.  We all experience other emotions like sadness. We have our moments when we can experience anger as well.  But there are times that emotions can get the best of us.  This is speaking from experience being a family therapist San Diego.

First lets examine the emotion of anger. This is an emotion that is extremely volatile. All people have had the experience of this emotion.  But for a few people it can get the best of them. When I am talking about it getting the best of them I am referring to them getting out of control.  They sometimes take that anger and express it with violence.  That is why it can be dangerous.  I have seen it go too far too many times doing anger management counseling.  That is when it must be dealt with professionally.Because it has the possibility of harming other people.

The other emotion we may experience is depression.  Doing depression counselor has allowed me to see how this emotion can be dangerous as well. Most of the times this emotion won’t hurt people in a direct way.But this is one of those emotions that can cause harm to one’s self. There are many reasons for it.  Sometimes it is a chemical imbalance. Those are the times when medicine will be the only form of treatment.  Or it can be an event that causes the depression.Either situation, when there is someone who experiences it, they could need some help.

As you can see these two emotions need to be under control.Whehter you are talking about anger or depression, those emotions both can cause serious issues.  Either to those around you or yourself.  So if you see somebody experiencing these emotions excessively, they may need counseling. It is going to be the best for everyone.

Beautiful silver jewelry in Asia

Friday, July 31st, 2009

For centuries, silver has been a popular material for making jewelry in almost every Asian country. Across this mysterious land, many artists enjoy using silver jewelry art to express their feelings. The Miao silver jewelry is particularly impressive

Tibetan Silver Jewelry

Traditional Tibetan silver jewelry usually contains 30% silver and 70% copper. Some silver jewelry sport colorful, shining stones like corallite and turquoise that add elegance to every jewel. Some jewels are carved with secret Sanskrit messages that send good luck wishes to you.

It's not easy to break Tibetan silver, as it's very soft. But when you rub certain Tibetan silver jewelry, a dark color will be left on your hands.

Tibetans often use silver to adorn their scabbards and display their social position.

Nepalese Silver Jewelry

Nepalese silver jewelry is very similar to Tibetan jewels, and they are all adorned with colorful stones like garnets, citrines, amethysts, opals, and sapphires.

But Nepalese silver jewelry is usually made with 92.5 % pure silver. Each jewel has intricate, handmade carvings. Their sterling silver jewelry rings are especially outstanding. There are more than 600 various types of rings popular in Nepal.

Thai Silver Jewelry

Thai silver jewelry is well known for its fashionable style and elaborate appearance. Many successful silver artisans who are famous worldwide come from Thailand. Thai silver jewelry is especially popular in the west.

Thai jewels are often adorned with glittering crystals like red or black garnets. They are especially suitable for evening dresses, or any casual clothes.

In Thailand, silver jewelry nearly accounts for 30 % of its yearly jewelry exports.

Chinese Miao Silver Jewelry

The Chinese Miao are known across Asia for their fine silver jewelry. A Miao girl starts to collect silver jewels at a very young age, and in her wedding day she wears a whole set of silver ornaments which can weigh over 30 pounds.

During holidays and big ceremonies, the Miao will wear headdresses, neckbands, bangles, shirts, and more, all wholly made out of silver!

The interesting headdress of the Chinese Long Horn Miao

Friday, July 31st, 2009

The Miao minority group in southwest China are famous for their great handcrafted artwork, like embroidery, silver jewelry, and batik. During their long history of migration, the Miao were divided into many distinct tribes, one of which is the Long Horn Miao.

The Long Horn Miao tribe is distinguished by a large wooden horn adorned in their hair. Both men and women used to wear this horn. They mix black wool together with the hair of their ancestors, and spin them around the horn to shape a large headdress that usually weighs 3-6 kilograms.

When children reach 12 or 13 years old, they start to wear this headdress. During holidays, boys and girls in their ethnic clothes wear this obvious headdress to get together, singing, dancing, and looking for their lifelong partners.

Girls usually spend about one hour to prepare this big headdress. Such complicated work can’t be completed by one person and requires the help of others.

The wooden horn is almost a half meter long and has some teeth at the center. So people also use it to comb their hair.

Before summer arrives, boys go to the mountains to select a special plant. After immersing the plant in water for a while, they use a piece of bamboo to scrape it until a white layer comes off. This layer is sunned outside, and then it is twisted into pieces of twine.

People use this long, white twine to secure their heavy headdress, which can be worn for 3-4 days. They have to be very careful not to destroy their headdress during holidays. When eating, they have to use a ladle instead of a bowl to hold food and stretch out their necks to dine.

Only women still wear this headdress today.

Single women also use colorful flowers to adorn their hair, which means they are not married yet. Many like to wear a copper neckband, which is a symbol of wealth and beauty. They don’t wear handmade silver jewelry like other Miao people.

In ancient times, people used fur or tree leaves to cover their body. It was a fig leaf.

Today the Long Horn Miao women usually wear a black felt apron which originates from this fig leaf. But today it’s only used for decoration and keeping warm. It’s also an important item for pregnant women.

Surprising choices during pregnancy

Friday, July 31st, 2009

One of the most precious times for a woman’s life is pregnancy.A lot of women really want to have kids.It is during those pregnancy months that those desires start to now come true.

During a woman’s pregnancy, a bunch of decisions and options will have to be decided upon. One of those decisions and options is the method of delivery.  Sounds strange to say it is a choice but it is.Quite a few woman usually make the choice of using medicine to aid in the delivery.  But there is a growing movement of women who choose to go natural. In other words no use of medicine to help with the delivery.  I have seen this from first hand experience as a San Diego midwife. It is taken from that experience that I am going to express various benefits.

So why is it that quite a few women are opting for a non medical delivery.  A couple of reasons.First thing to point out is that women are now starting to realize that medicine actually make the delivery slow down.  When you are in pain and want to deliver as fast as possible, medicine defeats the purpose.  Many women are starting to realize that. What most women don’t think is possible is that they have another way to do it. If they make the choice to have it done that way, they can utilize the services of a midwife.  In my part of the country there are quite a few midwives in San Diego.

A midwife has the ability to assist a women to have a gentle delivery.  They could choose a waterbirth.Waterbirth is a form of delivery that utilizes water to help with the pain and help during delivery.

Also if a woman goes with that choice, a midwife can also assist in a home delivery also. Once again you can find a homebirth midwife in San Diego if you look.

The benefits of doing it at home is a relaxed and a less stressful environment. These two benefits alone make it inviting to have it naturally. If you are having a baby, it can be a choice that you could want to have.

UK to Become Hotter Then Spain

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Whenever you told anyone that you were visiting the UK, they would immediately think cold, bad weather and not having a great time. If on the other hand you then told them Spain, Turkey or Kenya they would be envious simply because of the fact that the weather is warm and the beaches are clean.

But that could all be changing soon; the summer in the UK is getting hotter and hotter every year. For people living in Britain, there has already been a huge heat wave which has seen temperatures actually hit as high as 30. But the thing about the weather in the UK is that it is actually a lot hotter then any other country.

If you have noticed in the summer Britain does not get dark until around 11 at night, whereas other hot countries get dark as soon as it hits 6 o clock, this is once again due down to the fact that the sun is a lot lower in the UK. So when the sun does hit your face it feels so much warmer.

But this does happen to become a bit worrying as it indicates the extent of damage to the earth. Global warming is getting a lot worse especially in the UK. Although many people may well be unhappy that the summers are getting hotter, they must also remember that global warming causes the winters to get colder. We know that Britain is very vulnerable to flooding and the last time it snowed the whole country came to a complete and utter standstill.

So there are good and bad sides to a lot of things and this is exactly the same

Health Warnings, Sunburn and Mass Buying of Fans: The Fallout from the UK Heatwave

UK Heatwave (YouTube)

People in Britain got a welcome break from their usual rain and misery recently when a heatwave broke out across the country. During the end of June and beginning of July temperatures rocketed to a whopping 35 Celsius (or 95 in Fahrenheit), the hottest in three years.  It was also the hottest temperature in June for many years - the average for June is 19-22 degrees Celcius (around 70 degrees Fahrenheit).

But when a population starved of warmth and sunshine are given it all in one go, crazy things start to happen.

Sun Worshipper Stampede

First thing you see when the sun comes out in the UK is people stripping down to bikinis to make the most of the sun.  You can visit any town in Britain during such weather and be sure of spotting hordes of people fighting for a good patch to sun themselves.  Several months down the line you can be sure of a few melanoma scares resulting from the overexuberant sun-worshipping.

The Grass Is Always Greener

True to form, the British mentality can’t deal with simply being happy and counting there blessings for more than a few days. Sure enough we soon started hearing people grumbling about it being too hot, and wishing for some cooler weather or even some rain. And, inevitably, there were petitions to demand the government do something about the awful hot weather and lack of air conditioning in public places!

Cooling Down

While half of the UK population are stripping down to their underwear, the rest rushes down to the high street and sucks up the entire stock of desk fans like some sweaty, many-headed monster. According to Google, searches for the term “portable air conditioner” in the UK went from 9,900 in May to 49,500 in June!

Nothing Lasts Forever

Unfortunately these Mediterranean conditions failed to stick around, and after a week of this there were equally severe thunderstorms and rain, leading to severe flooding in some parts.  Many environmental campaigners are pointing to these extremities as yet more evidence of the effects of climate change.  Predictably, everyone is now moaning and complaining about the wind and rain, and wishing the heatwave would come back. You just can’t win.

Sermon Length

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Over the past one hundred years the average sermon has changed. Just fourty years ago it was not uncommon to sit through a one hour sermon.  Today if you preach over an hour your congregation will grow restless and a lot of people will even get up an leave.  What has changed?

Two main factors have changed in our culture that effect the length of time people are willing to sit in church and listen to a sermon.  First of all,  I believe that people have become more impatient.  We live in an instant world. We have instant coffee, instant potatoes, instant tea, instant food, microwave dinners, fast food and express lanes so it is no wonder people want fast sermons. We have become accustomed to our news being delivered in one sentence headlines flashed on the tv screen, instead of longer articles we have to read in newspapers.  I am not surprised that our congregations are impatient with long sermons.

The second factor is that our senses are dulled from the constant onslaught of overly stimulating entertainment.  The most wide spread addiction is the TV and it over stimulation of our senses.  For a show to grab the top ratings it has to be more exciting, more packed with action, violence and explosions than its competition.  As a result we are now numb to the subtilties of speech and relationships.  In general, a sermon doesn’t impact the senses like a movie or a TV show.   As a result the modern, over stimulated, listner soon loses interest in a sermon.  So, what are we to do about it.

First of all we need to realize that we are not in competetion with the entertainment industry.  Bigger, louder, more exciting and more ’show biz’, is not the answer.  Preaching and sermons are not to be entertaining.  However, they don’t have to be boring.

Sermons need to be interesting and they CAN be if the preacher will spend the time and energy to properly develop them and relate them to the congregation.  The biggest problem with sermons today is that they are delivered to the wrong part of the human body.  In general sermons should be aimed at the heart, not the head.  They should be delivered from the soul of the preacher not just his brain.  This means that he needs to be intense and intensely believe in the message he is delivering.  Boring sermons come from preachers who are bored with the message.  The same preacher that will enthusiasticly cheer, screem and shout at a ball game will be passionless and cold in the pulpit.  A sermon delivered without passion is just a speech (a boring one).

If we are to overcome the short attention span of the modern listener it will be because we grab his attention with our passion.  Be passionate, catch fire, and preach an organized message with fervor.

Of course it takes more than wildfire to win men to the Lord and it takes more than unbridled enthusiasm to build a church.  However, a scholarly but dry, dead sermon doesn’t get the job done either.

Make a Fertility Charm

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

In many contexts,Fertility can mean many things. The spells which fertility spells are some of the oldest spells we know of, all connect the idea of fertility to both childbearing and the harvest. At the spring festival of Beltane, the fertility of the people and the fertility of the crops were linked completely, and lovers would meet in the fields to assure themselves of a plentiful crop.In modern times we no longer live in an agrarian culture, but the connection between the growth of plants and the growth of our children still exists, and so we will take advantage of that magickal link using acorns, symbolizing the fertilized seed of life. This spell is meant to be done by the mother-to-be, but both of the prospective parents should carry the resulting protection  charms.

When the Moon is waxing, which means when it is going from new to full, assemble your ingredients in a location where you will not be disturbed. Place the candle in its holder, clear your mind and fill the bowl with the water.

Chant:”I call upon you, oh spirits of fire with a firm and even voice. Come unto me and grant my will. Grace my magick with your hunger and fill my womb with your strength. So let my child grow as you grow.”Let the energy flow up from your womb into the acorns held in your right hand and into your right arm. Until they pulse with power, let the light fill the acorns and your hand.

Chant:”Oh spirits of flame, bring forth life and birth and meet your natural companion in water!”Drop the acorns into the water. As they soak in the water, visualize the light within them changing to include the color blue.

chant:”With the powers of fire and water, through the air of my words and the earth of my body, my spell is made and my will is done as you smear the wax onto the acorns and let it dry. So mote it be!”Put the acorns in the pouches, and have both the prospective parents carry the fertility charms in their pocket or as deep and close to their genitals as possible.Bright blessings to your children and good luck!

Historical Mind Power

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

If we believe in something strongly enough, will occur. What we can imagine, we will bring to us as our minds have the power of a magnet. This is known as the law of attraction. It is a potent function of the mind. Think, feel and believe you are going to have a wonderful life, and you will begin to create it. This is something you must practice, but when you work to imagine what you want to achieve, then it can begin to occur. The mind is an amazing and powerful entity.

We all have mind power that we just do not realize. In fact, research has proven that we only use about 10% of our brain power. What a waste! We seem to only stick to the simple things and bypass the rest. That could be why we seem to think life is nothing but trouble. That leads to negative thoughts because we do not think anything can happen. We think negative, so we draw negativity to ourselves. The truth is that by thinking this way we are just manifesting the negativity in our own life.

The reality of life first happens within the mind. Whatever you have accumulated thus far has been a result of your mind power. It has been said that everyone has psychic and extra sensory skills or ‘powers’, but in reality, it is simply a state of advanced mind power. If there is something that you want in life, then all you have to do is think it. Those who are always expecting the worst will always end up with the worst.

There are some things you can begin to do today to use your mind power more fully. One way to do this is through visualization. Visualization is a powerful tool that can have a noticeable impact on your day to day life. In the process it will expand your mind power and enhance your ability to bring the things you want into your life.

Visualization is done by sitting quietly and using your mind to imagine all of the things you would like to have in your world. Let your mind create picture images of those things. Anyone can use the visualization technique to bring these desires into their subconscious mind. The subconscious mind will then bring them into the world. Hold positive images in your mind and you will have positive results; hold negative images and you will have negative results. Plan ahead what you want to do before you begin your visualization practice.

In fact, write down your positive ideas and thoughts of your ideal life in a story like format. Talk about your goals and your dreams and what you would like your life to be like. You want to be able to remember as much as possible when you begin the visualization exercise so write down as many details as you can. Do these several times a day until it begins to feel so real that you begin to believe in your dreams.

Another technique to use to increase mind power is affirmations. Affirmations are positive things that you think or say to yourself throughout the day. They encourage you to think positivity and to work towards your goals. They can be about anything positive that you want to happen in your life. Just keep using them every day. You should do this for 28 days straight, even if it feels weird, in 28 days it will naturally become a habit.

Another option is to use brainwave entrainment to develop your mind power. This is done through the synchronization of brainwaves using different frequencies through audio technology. The brain is an amazing thing in that it can do more than one thing at a time. Using advanced audio technology you can improve your minds power to heal. This process also improves memory and enhances natural psychic powers. This method is advanced but it can do amazing things.

A frequently used method to expand mind power is hypnosis. Hypnosis is used to relax the body and open up access to the subconscious mind. It has been used as an effective treatment to help people quit smoking. Through repeated sessions, a person sits and relaxes as someone tells them over and over that they are ready to quit smoking, that they no longer have the desire to smoke, and that they can and will quit smoking. They are convinced in their subconscious mind that they can quit and so they do.

Mind power is something that everyone has. It is all about believing in it. It is not usually an overnight occurrence, but with time you will change your life and you will draw in good luck. You have to send out those positive vibes and draw them back in to manifest in your life. You just have to start with your subconscious mind and harnessing that mind power.
